Our Teachers’ Qualifications Explained
Here is what the qualifications and subjects on our teacher profiles mean.
Hifz-ul-Quran
Memorisation of the entire Quran. A man who has completed it is called a Hafiz, and a woman a Hafiza. All 12 of our teachers are Hafiz-e-Quran.
Dars-e-Nizami
A traditional, multi-year course of Islamic studies that includes Arabic, Tafsir, Hadith and Fiqh. 9 of our 12 teachers have completed it.
Ijazah with Sanad
A formal certification that a person recites the Quran correctly, given by a qualified teacher and linked through a chain of teachers (sanad). All of our teachers hold an Ijazah with sanad, and students on our Ijazah course can earn one after passing a formal test.
Basic Qaida
The starting point for beginners: learning the Arabic letters, their sounds and how they join, so the student can move on to reading the Quran.
Nazra Quran
Reading the Quran from the text (looking at the words) fluently and correctly, without memorising it.
Tajweed
The rules of correct Quran recitation: how each letter is pronounced, where to pause, and how sounds are lengthened or merged.
Tafsir
The explanation of the meaning of the Quran and its teachings. Hafiza Fatima specialises in Tafsir-e-Quran.
Hadith
The recorded sayings and teachings of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Qari Ibrahim has a special focus on Hadith and teaches Hadith classes.
